Step 2 Washpressure
Once the slurry is compressed to form a packed
bed of crystals and mother liquor the bed can be washed to remove any remaining
mother liquor. A stream of pure melted product is forced back through the
packed bed by increasing the pressure on top of the column. This forms a
boundary layer between the pure wash liquid and impure mother liquor.
This so called "wash front" has some special characteristics that
provide for the unique washing capabilities in the GEA Messo PT Washcolumn
