ZLD is broadly defined as the separation of an aqueous waste to its water
and solids components. The water is reused, and the solids (usually with some
residual moisture) are disposed as a waste.
GEA Messo PT offers
evaporation and crystallization systems for industrial wastewater treatment
applications. Each installation is custom-designed to fit client-specific
requirements, and can combine additional unit operations as necessary, to
deliver an energy-efficient, low-investment package.
Brine
purification, filtration, reverse osmosis are employed to reduce the overall
energy requirements of the facility, and to allow the use of less expensive
materials of construction; the removal of scaling components allows the use of
simple (unseeded) Falling Film evaporators, and finishing Forced-Circulation
evaporative crystallizers are used to reduce the waste water to wet solids and
industrial-quality condensate. The evaporator and crystallizer can be operated
with live steam, Thermal Vapor Recompression or Mechanical Vapor Recompression.
On occasion, if economically attractive, by-products of value can be
recovered from the feedstock.
