Open cooling tower circuits require liquid purge to avoid scaling problems
within the cooling tower and the equipment served with the re-cooled water.
These cooling water blowdowns are typically characterized by relatively low
concentrations of neutral salts, incl. hardeners, with traces of typical
cooling water additives.
GEA Messo PT owns well qualified technology to
concentrate the cooling water blow down to dry residue and to recover water in
process water quality. In order to minimize operation costs, the process design
is determined by energy efficiency and operation stability.
Typical
process steps are:
- Chemo-physical treatment of the blow down water.
- Pre-concentration by means of membrane technology, if applicable.
- Thermal concentration using mechanical vapour recompression systems.
- Crystallization and separation of solids.
