Design of plants downstream of synthesis or fermentation

For Several decades, GEA Messo PT has been active in plant design and equipment supply for food-related organics, such as

  • Citric acid
  • Caffeine
  • Glutamic acid, resp. MSG
  • Lysine
  • Threonine
  • Special sugar
  • Vitamin C

Or related products upstream, like

  • Ketogulonic acid
  • Sodium ascorbate
  • Sodium ketogulonate

as well as in the design and supply of the associated waste-water treatment systems, like:

  • Sodium sulphate from Vitamin C production,
  • Baker’s yeast (and bioethanol) vinasses concentration with recovery potassium
  • Sulphate as by-product

These plants use effectively not only GEA Messo PT’s core technology of crystallization, but various other unit operations as well, to achieve the high and consistent quality required in food and pharmaceutical production. Typical unit operations implemented successfully are membrane processes, flocculant-supported precipiation processes, treatment with activated carbon, etc.

GEA Messo PT maintains a modern Research Centre in which such process designs can be evaluated and detailed modeling can be carried out, to ensure a successful full-scale installation.
